Week 4 – LOVE

Day 22 – A Heart Too Small

Scripture (NIV): Ezekiel 36:26

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
The Grinch’s heart is “two sizes too small.” That’s his real problem—not Christmas, not the Whos, but a heart that’s grown cold.

Scripture Reflection:
God promises to give us new hearts—soft hearts that can love like His. Advent love begins with letting God change us from the inside out.

Family Activity & Question:
Using playdough or clay, shape a heart together. As you mold it, pray, “God, make our hearts soft and full of Your love.”
Ask: “How can we show God’s love with a soft heart today?”

Day 23 – A Love That Changes Hearts

Scripture (NIV): Romans 5:8

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
Even though he tried to ruin their Christmas, the Whos don’t hate the Grinch. Their song and forgiveness start to melt his icy heart.

Scripture Reflection:
God loved us first—even when we didn’t deserve it. That kind of love changes everything. Advent love invites us to love others the same way.

Family Activity & Question:
Each person writes a short note or draws a picture for someone outside the family who might need encouragement. Deliver or mail them together.

Ask: “Who can we love first, the way God loved us first?”

Day 24 – The Grinch Returns the Gifts

Scripture (NIV): Luke 19:8–10

“But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’
Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house… For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’”

Grinch Story Reflection:
Like Zacchaeus, the Grinch’s heart change shows up in action. He races back down the mountain, returning every single thing he stole.

Scripture Reflection:
When love fills our hearts, it overflows into generosity and making things right. God’s love turns takers into givers.

Family Activity & Question:
Clean out a closet or toy box together. Choose things to give to someone in need.
Ask: “What happens in our hearts when we give instead of keep?”

Day 25 – Love One Another

Scripture (NIV): John 13:34–35

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
When the Whos open their circle and welcome the Grinch to the feast, they show love in action. Their kindness proves that love wins.

Scripture Reflection:
Jesus tells us that love is how people recognize we belong to Him. Advent love invites us to open our hearts and include everyone.

Family Activity & Question:
Bake cookies or a treat and surprise a neighbor, teacher, or friend with it.
Ask: “What does it mean to love people the way Jesus loves us?”

Day 26 – The Feast of Love

Scripture (NIV): Psalm 23:5–6

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
At the end, the Grinch sits at the Whos’ table, carving the roast beast. The one who once ruined Christmas now helps lead the celebration.

Scripture Reflection:
God’s love invites us to His table, where there’s always room. Advent love is generous—it welcomes, feeds, and fills us with joy.

Family Activity & Question:
Set the table together for dinner with a “special guest” plate—pray for someone you’d like to invite into God’s family.
Ask: “Who might God want us to make space for at our table?”

Day 27 – Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Scripture (NIV): 1 John 4:18–19

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
The Grinch climbs Mount Crumpit ready to dump the presents, but love changes his plan. His fear of being alone and unloved disappears as he’s embraced by the Whos.

Scripture Reflection:
God’s love drives out fear. When we rest in His love, we don’t have to be afraid of failing or not being enough. We are perfectly loved already.

Family Activity & Question:
Take turns naming something you’re afraid of, then say together, “God’s love is bigger!”

Ask: “How does knowing God loves us help our fears shrink?”

Day 28 – Christmas Eve: Love Came Down

Scripture (NIV): Matthew 1:23

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’).”

Grinch Story Reflection:
Love literally comes down the mountain. The Grinch carries all the gifts back and finds himself surrounded by the very people he once avoided.

Scripture Reflection:
At Christmas, God came down to be with us. Love put on skin and lived among us. Advent ends with this truth—God’s love is here to stay.

Family Activity & Question:
Turn off the lights and gather around your Christmas tree or Advent candles. Whisper together, “God with us.”

Ask: “What does it mean that God is with us right now?”

Christmas Day – The True Gift

Scripture (NIV): John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Grinch Story Reflection:
On Christmas morning, the Grinch doesn’t just return the gifts—he receives a brand-new heart and a new family. His story ends in laughter, not loneliness.

Scripture Reflection:
God gave the greatest gift of all—Himself. When we receive Jesus, we become part of His forever family. Christmas isn’t just about presents under a tree; it’s about God’s presence in our lives.

Family Activity & Question:
Before opening gifts, hold hands and pray: “Jesus, thank You for being the greatest gift of all.”
Ask: “How can we give Your love
